Plans underway for Antique Auto Show 2013

Members of the Antique Auto Cub of The Bahamas have begun organizing plans for the Club's 26th Annual Antique Auto Show and Cook-out. The Annual show, which has become a local favourite will again be held at Arawak Cay. The date is Saturday, March 23 from the hours of Noon to 6:00 PM.

Last year's show at the same location featured about 60 local cars and trucks. The club is hoping to exceed that amount in 2013 and is appealing to members of the public, who own vintage vehicles aged 20 years old or more, and are not already members of the club to participate in the show. Entry fee for cars being judged remains at $35. Judging will be done in 8 different classes for trophies in first, second and third positions. The popular People's Choice, where visitors to the show determine the winners, and has cash prizes as well as trophies, of course, remains as a standard of the Show.

Antique Auto Club elects new Leadership Team

The Antique Auto Club of The Bahamas has announced the recent election of Officers and Directors for the years 2012-13. Elected as President is Brendan Foulkes and Vice-President/President-Elect is Dwain Wallace. Murray Forde and Wayne Aranha were returned to the positions of Secretary and Treasurer respectively. Directors are Don Aranha, John Damas, Dion Bethell, Donald Pinder and Immediate President, Richard Blake. Elections are held every two years and Mr. Blake was thanked for his dedication and leadership for the years 2010 & 2011.

While primarily formed as a Hobby Club, the club also believes in giving back to the community, including organizing, together with the Riders of Distinction Motorcycle Club, the Annual Cruise to the Cure for the Cancer Society, supporting the Kiwanis Club of Cable Beach in its annual Antique Auto Show, a major fund-raiser for that club’s community service efforts, providing gifts and groceries for some 80 underprivileged children at Christmas time and, the Club’s biggest event, the Annual Antique Auto Show and Cook-out, which always benefits a charity or organization involving children..

The Club was formed in July 1987 by six men interested in the vintage automobile hobby and this year is celebrating its 25th Anniversary with a membership of some 50 men and women. A number of events are being planned to celebrate the “Silver Jubilee” throughout the year, the first of which will be the Annual Antique Auto Show and Cook-out at Arawak Cay on Saturday, March 17. Several ancillary family events are being planned along with the Show and members are striving to have a record-setting 100 vehicles plus motorcycles at the event. Funds are raised through Corporate Sponsorships from the business community and the Cook-out part of the event. The beneficiary selected for this year’s proceeds is the Elizabeth Estates Children’s Home and the usual support from the public is anticipated.
